Drink with walkers because their friends think it is OK

Drink within walking or walking in a public place while intoxicated is associated with an increased risk of injury and death.Friends may be the key to stopping the guys drink walking, risk behaviors, which kills an average of two Australians every week at QUT research has found.

Researcher Dr Ion Lewis QUT's, the accident investigation safety-&-Queensland (CARRS-Q), on 17 and 25 years of research, said young people were the strongest influence their intentions to drink of the walk.

"A drink, walking, or walking in a public place while intoxicated are associated with an increased risk of an accident" Dr Lewis said.

In one study, published in the shuttle research for more than 50% of the participants said they walked for the last six months with evidence that some young people to drink, walk to the future while intoxicated.

"The investigation found the risks of drinking was seen as less risky than walking for drink driving, however, research shows that in Australia an average of a hundred alcohol affect pedestrians are killed each year in the" Dr. Lewis said.

"It's the equivalent of more than 5% of the deaths in the crash of the traffic."

Dr Lewis said the study examined the friends, parents and peers and found friends could have a significant impact on young people's decision to drink within walking distance.

"Drink walking may occur, for example, when young people start drinking at home before heading out to pubs and clubs, or when they're walking between a licensed meeting place," he said.

"We now know that when young people who experience his friends accept the drink away and believing their friends to take part in drinking, walking, that these young people are more likely to drink to walk during the next six months."
The study identified the young men are most at risk, because they need to drink a walk is a low-risk activity, he said.

"If we turn the notion of young people drink to walking is not a low-risk activity and it is dangerous, so we may be able to reduce the injuries and deaths."

Dr Lewis said the next step, which was in the process of the second study, was to design and test the emergency messages to prevent drinking walking among the young.

The research is looking for 18-25 year olds willing to give some of the anti-drinking within walking through the concepts of the advertising online survey responses.
